5 years post-grad

ree

🎓Five years post-graduation, I never imagined I’d be building a career in Human Resources. I actually started out in Accounting—well, technically in Early Childhood Education (Technical High School). I earned my degree in Accounting and Management with a concentration in Finance and Banking, but my journey took a different path, thanks largely to networking.

I used to say I didn’t have the patience to teach children, yet now I find myself educating employees and students—a full-circle moment I didn’t see coming. I’ve built a career in HR without a formal degree in the field, relying instead on stretch assignments, a willingness to learn, and meaningful connections.

No HR degree. Just curiosity, connections, and a willingness to say “yes” to growth. And that’s made all the difference

✨ Find your people. Mentors and sponsors can open doors you didn’t even know existed.

🚀 Take the leap. Stretch assignments often lead to stretch growth.

🏢 Show up. Even the corporate events you side-eye might hold your next big opportunity.

⏳ Give it time. Progress doesn’t always move at the pace you want—but trust that it’s moving. (A manager reach out to me to apply for the internal role)

Growth starts where your comfort zone ends. 👣

1st Picture: Promotion in my new role

2nd: Attending the National Association of Black Accountants National Convention as a Staff Accountant

3rd: College Graduation During COVID

4th: I attended St. Georges Technical High School, where I followed a career track in Early Childhood Education. As part of our program, we had an on-site preschool. During one of my teaching weeks, I created a themed curriculum called Move Your Body to encourage physical activity and movement among the children
